Tyler's spirits were a little low today. Tired of being in the hospital. Ready to go home. Parker Cazier (Tyler's best friend) came to the hospital to see him. You should have seen that little boys' spirits just lift and lift and lift. Within a few minutes, Tyler had forgotten how bad his neck hurt, how floppy and weak his legs were, how boring 4 days in the hospital were, how much he wanted to be home. All of a sudden he was excited about life! He was moving around and talking and was just thrilled to have his friend there! I cant even think about it without crying. I don't know if I have ever seen someone's demeanor change so quickly before.
Parker has been an angel in our lives, and especially in Tyler's life. At the beginning of last school year, we had just moved from Cleveland Ohio to Pasco Washington, and Tyler was at a school 5x the size of his previous school. His mom was perhaps even more nervous than he was, especially knowing the physical mobility things that Tyler deals with. On the first day of school, however, Tyler and Parker discovered they were in the same class (they had seen each other in primary before). They instantly became the best of friends. Everyday after school, Tyler's report was about what he had done with Parker, what joke Parker had brought to school, what Parker said that made him laugh, etc. When Tyler missed a day at school, almost without fail Parker would show up on our doorstep after school to see where Tyler had been, most often with another chocolate treat (Tyler loves chocolate).
Parker has taught our whole family what it means to be a friend. And as a mother of a little boy with special needs, I will be forever grateful for Parker.
